Why We Chose Hospice Waterloo Region

This year, we are proud to support Hospice Waterloo Region, an organization that provides compassionate care to individuals and families facing end-of-life challenges. As paramedics, we often witness the profound impact that quality care and emotional support can have during critical moments. Hospice Waterloo Region aligns with our commitment to serving the community by offering a wide range of services, including residential hospice care, bereavement support, and wellness programs, ensuring dignity and comfort for those in their final stages of life.

About Hospice Waterloo Region

Hospice Waterloo Region is deeply committed to providing compassionate care that fosters meaningful connections within the community. Through volunteer visiting, they offer not only emotional and practical support but also a comforting presence during some of life’s most challenging moments. Their services, including the Day Away Program, complementary therapies, and transportation assistance, are designed to help clients and families feel supported, cared for, and connected. Whether through the soothing touch of a massage, the warmth of a volunteer’s companionship, or the gentle care in the final days of life, Hospice Waterloo Region creates a space for families to find peace, reflect on cherished memories, and experience the comfort of a compassionate community.

Dean Wick, affectionately known as the "Cardiac Guru," dedicated over 40 years to serving the Waterloo Region and Guelph-Wellington communities as a highly skilled and compassionate advanced care paramedic. Renowned for his exceptional expertise in cardiac care, Dean earned the admiration of his colleagues and the heartfelt gratitude of countless patients. In addition to his paramedic work, he selflessly served as a volunteer firefighter for an impressive 48 years with Minto Township, embodying an unwavering commitment to public safety and emergency services. A mentor and role model, Dean’s compassion and dedication left an indelible mark on those who had the privilege of working alongside him, inspiring future generations in the field of emergency care. In memory of Dean, a bench will be purchased for Waterloo Paramedic Headquarters for the Paramedic Memorial space.
